All Oklahomans, including churches, schools, civic groups and law enforcement can have an active investment in this historic methamphetamine awareness project.Crystal Darkness Oklahoma, co-chaired by Oklahoma First Lady Kim Henry, begins with the airing of the half-hour documentary on all Oklahoma television stations, as well as radio and internet media.  The documentary will feature testimonials graphically articulating the devastating impact meth has had on families and communities across the state. The air-date is tentatively set for Tuesday January 13, 2009.
 
In the meantime, ways to help with the project include organizing community watch parties, panel discussions and other events at your schools, churches and community centers the night of the televised Crystal Darkness Oklahoma documentary, as well as donating money and/or time to the project. If you are interested in helping in any way, please fill out our contact form and one of our organizers will contact you with more information.
 
Oklahomans can also spread the word to school boards and administrators, civic clubs and churches, retail stores owners and managers within your community to report suspicious activities, or schedule free meth awareness educational/training programs in your town.

A Canadian college student majoring in chemistry built himself a home lab - and discovered that trying to do science in your own home quickly leads to accusations of drug-making and terrorism.

Lewis Casey, an 18-year-old in Saskatchewan, had built a small chemistry lab in his family's garage near the university where he studies. Then two weeks ago, police arrived at his home with a search warrant and based on a quick survey of his lab determined that it was a meth lab. They pulled Casey out of the shower to interrogate him, and then arrested him.

A few days later, police admitted that Casey's chemistry lab wasn't a meth lab - but they kept him in jail, claiming that he had some of the materials necessary to produce explosives. Friends and neighbors wrote dozens of letters to the court, testifying that Casey was innocent and merely a student who is really enthusiastic about chemistry.

On December 24, Casey was finally released into his parents' custody, pending a trial to determine whether he was building what police called "improvised explosive devices." Yesterday Casey's lawyer told local journalists:

My client is a very intelligent young man . . . he's very keen in chemistry, a very curious young person and very capable, very knowledgeable in the area and he was always curious with regard to chemistry, chemical compounds, chemical reactions, that kind of thing. So from my client's point of view, it's completely innocent insofar as he had no intention of creating any explosives or explosive devices. As people probably know, anything in your house can constitute or be used in chemical or explosive devices, including sugar and cleaning compounds, Mr. Clean, bleach, detergents, all those sorts of things.

It's unclear what made police raid Casey's house. They claim that they got a tip from a woman who sold Casey fertilizer and was concerned about it. Certain kinds of fertilizer are used in the production of crystal meth.

 Well needlessly to say these friends started to follow me home after work and always at the time when my family seemed to want my attention, so I started keeping at least one of these friends available for those days off that I needed to be awake for my family so it was ok...?

Days, months, years, went by as a blurrrr...??? and my lifestyle eventually overflowed onto my wife, she was not to accepting of my new found friends and she was starting to express a concern for our future so I explained to her that if I was going to keep working and spending time with our kids that she was going to have to help me out so I brought her on board with me slowly at first just enough to keep her quiet but it was for our family so it was ok...?

well eventually I found it easier to do my work thing if there was someone around the house that could keep them occupied and "safe" so I took on a roommate and went on working my long hours paying the bills and putting food in the fridge, my roommate didn't work but he kept his part of the rent paid with as much meth as we needed but I wasn't spending my money on it so it was ok...?

Days, months, years, went by we were blind! my family was drowning in a pool of my sweat...my kids were unhappy, my wife was feeling neglected and my roommate was there to help with it all paying his rent on a daily basis, but it was all to help me so it was ok...? I could see just a glimpse of what was happening and immediately started to ask why, when, how, and the answer was you weren't there you just need to understand so it's ok...! this continued for quite some time and I just kept on trucking me my dope and my spoon, oh yeah and my family was somewhere in the mix I don't really remember...
